Palma de Mallorca is the true and the largest city of the island Mallorca and it is one of the Balearic Islands off the Spanish east coast. The city council also has jurisdiction over the sub-archipelago of Cabrera including the islands of Cabrera such as Conejera, Estells, Imperial, Rodon, Foradada, Plana, and Pobra.
The city became a tourist destination in the 1950s and tourist numbers have continually increased in the subsequent half century. Palma is a busy commercial and cultural center of Mallorca.
The holiday season lasts from the end of April until October, and from November to April. Palma city airport is the major airport in Mallorca and has daily flights from many European cities on national and budget carriers.
The city is mostly overlooked by holidaymakers. It is a sophisticated and elegant place, bursting with boutique hotels, sleekly designed restaurants, cafés in the grand European style and some fine art collections.
Magalluf is the most agitated and noisy beach of Mallorca. The most accessible from Palma of the many beaches, Magalluf is a wide and lively beach. The beaches on the Northeast side of the island are fantastic.
The water is shallow enough to get quite a way out into the water and even in October the water is fairly warm. We can say that Palma offers a rich mix of history, culture and nightlife.
There is also ready access to the nearest resorts of Can Pastilla and Cala Mayor. The fascinating central area has narrow streets between the high walls of ancient buildings. This compact, easy to walk historic core of the city extends inland from the commercial port and the most prominent of landmarks.
The newest marina of Palma is the Marina de Port Mallorca. This marina is on the Paseo Maritimo and has modern facilities and friendly staff. Restaurants, shops and bars are next to the marina and the old city of Palma is within walking distance.
