Newport Yacht Charter Information

Newport is a city located on Aquidneck Island in the Newport County of Rhodes Island in the East coast of the United States. It lies at about 30 miles from the South of Providence. Newport is also known as New England most popular summer resort due to its natural seaside beauty and for its magnificent mansions and luxuriant gardens which were built by the industrial barons of America Gilded Age. Newport is considered as the world-wide summer destination stretching back since the 19th century when the America’s most famous industrialists erected an unequally collection of obscenely sumptuous mansions which overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Even though Astors and Vanderbilts are long dead now, their cottages still linger in excellent condition along Bellevue Avenue which hosts the Breakers, the Elms or the Marblehouse Rosecliff, which are the area’s premier attractions. There are also some places which attract the attention of the visitors such as the long series of music festivals which range from classical, folk to jazz, and which are amongst the most important in the US East coast. Newport became a renowned yacht charter destination on the US East coast when it hosted from 1930 to 1983 America’s Cup, which is the World premiere yacht regatta. The Australians wrestled and won the Cup from the New York Yacht Club in 1983 and the contest moved out of Newport. However, yachting and boating still remain deeply ingrained along Newport Harbor. The city of Newport hosts the famous Museum of Yachting and it is a popular destination in the East coast where all types of cruises are organized for the locals as well as its visitors.

Newport is also considered as a year-round vacation destination in the US East coast. During a yacht charter cruise, you will discover that throughout the year, the region host numerous festivals including the legendary jazz, folk and classical in the summer months and various ethnic festivals throughout the other seasons. You can enjoy the Black Ships Festival in July (which also celebrate culture and commerce with Japan), the Irish festival at Labor Day and the Newport Winter festival celebrated in January. You can also visit the famous museums that the city hosts such as the Naval War College Museum, the Museum of Yachting, and the National Museum of American Illustration. Yacht charterers can stroll around the Colonial-Period houses downtown where there are numerous charming shops and restaurants.  You can also enjoy the various beautiful beaches along the coast.  Some of Newport beaches are fashion for surfing (even during the winter months) and others are renowned for kite-flying. During a yacht charter trip along the coast, you discover the famous State Parks with their lighthouses such as the Colonial-era forts (in Newport) or those located on Jamestown Island. Jamestown Island is located between Newport and the mainland; it is renowned for its beautiful beaches and wooden roads that are perfect for idyllic summertime bicycle rides. At the island southern tip is Beavertail Park, on a peninsula that juts dramatically into the mouth of Narragansett Bay, dotted with elevated paths above rocky beaches, and a lighthouse.

The Newport Harbor is considered as one of the most active and important yachting centers in the eastern coast of the United States.  It is located a few steps away from Thames Street  which is the principal commercial drag and hosts numerous restaurants, bars where there are massive weekend crowds  day and night.  Newport is a perfect starting point to start a Southern New England yacht charter cruise in the East coast. It is a sailor’s paradise, where you will find a large number of charter yachts, numerous moorings and excellent provisional options as after all Newport has a renowned sailing cultural heritage! After leaving Newport Harbor, you can head to Pandanaram which is a village located in South Dartmouth where you can find moorings for yachts measuring up to 60ft. Sailing further at about 48 additional miles (6hours sail), you will reach Buzzards Bay which is the Cape Cod Canal through Cape Cod Bay to the tip of historic Cape Cod. Then sailing further to the North of Buzzards Bay, you will past New Bedford and to the canal. On the East is Cape Cod -North Falmouth, which is also an excellent destination in itself if you have enough time. As the bay narrows yacht charterers can ultimately arrive at the mouth of the Cape Cod Canal. You can have lunch at the Canal as you pass through the waters that separate the mainland of Massachusetts and Cape Cod.  During your sailing route to Provincetown, you will enjoy lots of Whale Watching and find berths in its protected harbor. Another 43 miles (approximately 5 ½ hours of sail), the Atlantic Ocean swells until you reach Nantucket Sound where you find good anchorage at Hadley Harbor and have dinner and visit Woods Hole which is a great Sailors hangout place. You can sail further to discover other interesting destinations like Nantucket Island, Martha Vineyard, Chappaquiddick Island, Elizabeth Islands and Cuttyhunk.
