New Caledonia Yacht Charter Information

New Caledonia consists of a group of islands which lies in the heart of the South Pacific and is located halfway between Fiji and Australia. The area is surrounded by an emerald lagoon and is the second largest coral barrier reef in the World. New Caledonia is also an exotic French Territory and the official language in the area is French.

The main island of the group is Grande Terre which is surrounded by a barrier reef stretching at about 1600km by creating the World’s largest lagoon. To the South of Grande Terre lies the Isle of Pines, to the East the Loyalty Islands comprising of Maré, Lifou, Tiga and Ouvéa, to the northwest, there is the tiny Belep islands which comprise of Huon, Surprise, Chesterfield, Walpole, Beautemps-Beaupré, Astrolabe and the rock of Ballona.

New Caledonia is a major yacht charter destination in the Pacific Ocean and it is considered as an excellent cruising ground for sailors. From the deck of your yacht, you will have the opportunity to see the widest variety of multicolored fish, there are also the beautiful corals or the seabed below. While sailing the area, you will see that even the outer islands will add to the delight with the surrounding aquamarine lagoons, the numerous deserted pristine white beaches, the sheer cliffs and the awesome volcanic rocks which seem to rise from nowhere.

A visit in the area will surely lead you to the capital city of New Caledonia, Nouméa on the island of Grande Terre. The main island is dotted with rugged mountains, fantastic waterfalls and hosts one of the World’s largest coral lagoon. If you head to the southeast, you will discover the romantic Ile des Pins with its numerous slender pines, white-sand beaches and emerald lagoon.

New Caledonia has a spring-like climate all year round, it is occasionally cooled by the Pacific Ocean and trade winds, but normally, it enjoys a comfortable sunny climate. The best cruising time in this part of paradise is from May to December.
