Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia and of the Province of Cagliari, it lies on the South coast of the island in the wide Gulf of Cagliari.

Cagliari is a Sardinian name which means Casteddu (Castle), referring to the ancient castle overlooking the city. Below lies the old harbor district known as the marina which hosts the largest port in Sardinia.

Cagliari is characterized by its narrow, shabby and vibrant streets lined with numerous restaurants from the modest to the expensive. It has over 2 thousand years of history which has left its mark in the numerous archaeological remains, the superb churches and various fine museums.

A few steps away from the town, there is the famous long Poetto beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean Sea.

Poetto beach stretches over 11km of fine, white sandy beach and is one of the most popular attractions for both locals and visitors all year round.

Cagliari is a renowned yacht charter destination in Sardinia and Poetto beach is a haven for beach lovers and yacht charterers from April till the end of October.

In the waters of Poetto beach, there are number of sailing regattas and contests held every year like the 60 foot Italian Open Championship, the Vela Latina Mediterranean, part of the international circuit and the famous Tiscali Cup.

Apart from being the main entry point into the island of Sardinia, the old town of Cagliari is also a vibrant cultural and economic hub which is set in a very picturesque region of Sardinia having numerous sunny days which earned it the nickname of The City of Sun.

As the town of Cagliari is separated into 2 distinct parts, the old town and the new town, each offering something unique to sample, for a complete experience, it is better for yacht charterers to visit both.

In the old town, you will have the opportunity to visit numerous buildings like the Castello or the National Pictures Gallery.

In the new town, you can visit a fair share of monuments like the church of S. Lucifero, the Basilica of S.Saturnino which is the oldest temple in Sardinia and there are various museums worth visiting too.

You can also enjoy some nice shopping at the numerous craft shops in the old quarter where you will find many bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
