The Port de la Pointe Rouge (Red Point Port in English) is located in Marseille on the Mediterranean coast of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region in the southern of France. It is located between the town of Vieille-Chapelle and Montredon.
The Port de la Pointe Rouge is considered as the biggest port in Marseille after the Vieux Port. It was built between 1964 and 1972 and offers more than 1800 berths for all types of boats including sailing boats, motor yachts or luxury yachts.
The Port de la Pointe Rouge is also a popular yacht charter destination in the French Riviera and attracts numerous visitors and many yacht charterers all year round. The area in Marseille is well-known for La Plage de la Pointe Rouge, a white sandy beach which is well-sheltered from the winds.
There are also some popular beaches from Montredon including La Batterie, Les Bains des Dames and also some smaller beaches like Anse des Phocéens, Anse des Sablettes and Bonne Brise, also known as La Verrerie or chez Dédé.
Around the Port de la Pointe Rouge, you will find numerous restaurants, bars, clubs and cafes especially in the centre of the town where you will also find L’Ecole Nationale de la Marine Marchande.
Port de la Pointe Rouge is also a renowned windsurfing spot and attracts many visitors each year.
One of the most popular attractions in Marseille is its coastline, which stretches from the North to the South forming a crescent and alternating beautifully between rocks, sand and shingle.
La Pointe Rouge is particularly renowned in the area for its beautiful beaches. As soon as you set anchorage at the Port de la Pointe Rouge, you will find the famous Bain des Dames and the Bonne Brise coves, which are small beaches made up of sand and pebble. From the 2 beaches, you will have a superb view of the Marseille harbor and there is also a restaurant nearby.
You can also visit the Pointe Rouge beach, which is the largest sandy beach in the area, it adjoins the Port de la Pointe Rouge. The beach lies just to the South of main city of Marseille and it offers long stretches of sand. It is a very popular beach and offers a wide range of water sports including windsurfing, paragliding and waterskiing.
