Vrsar is a seaside village settled on hill surrounded by a picturesque bell tower which lies on the western part of the peninsula of Istria in Croatia. It is located on the narrow entrance of the Limski Channel to the North of Rovinj.
Vrsar hosts along its coast the world’s largest nudist camp which was established in early 60’s as one of the first camps of this kind.
It is also a major tourist resort in Croatia and its proximity to the large archipelago of 18 unpopulated islets covered with all types of Mediterranean plants contribute to make Vrsar a renowned yacht charter destination too.
There are 2 marinas in Vrsar: Vrsar Marina which lies in the harbor of Vrsar and Marina Valalta which is located to the South of the town close to the nudist camp.
The Vrsar Marina offers about 220 berths for yachts having a maximum length of 40m and the Marina Valalta can accommodate up to 180 more yachts.
The Old town of Vrsar is located on a steep hill overlooking Marina Vrsar where you can see many beautiful yachts moored in the azure blue sea. There is also a promenade in front of the marina lined with many coffee bars and restaurants which gets very crowded in summer.
As soon as you set anchor at Marina Vrsar, you can climb up the steep hill to the Old Town where you can visit many interesting sites.
The Vrsar sea Gate is one of the last remaining of the old fortified town once was, you can climb up the steep hill and visit the beautiful Church of St Mary which dates back since the 10th century.
Beside the church, you will find an important Romanesque Istrian monument and the town’s tower from where you will have spectacular views of the marina’s area.
The Vergotini castle and St Anthony Church are also worth-visiting too. You will also find numerous places nearby that will lead you to Vrsar surrounding areas like Koversada which lies just outside the town and further to the South you will come across the marina reserve where the nudist camp is located.
You can also visit the Lemski Channel which is an interesting site wealthy with oysters and mussels that you can taste in the traditional style.
